Tulare County: Canal breached in Seville - Flooding controlled

Heavy rains and lack of canal maintenance were to blame for an irrigation canal breaching its banks and threatening seven homes in Seville on Saturday, according to the Tulare County Fire Department

Three engines and ten firefighters responded along with the California Highway Department, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department, the Tulare County Resource Management Agency and CAL FIRE to Seville Avenue and Road 156 just before noon.

Sandbags placed in three damaged areas of the canal stopped the water from overflowing the banks.

Three hundred sandbags were given to threatened property owners and no damage was caused by flooding, officials said.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
