GACC: This mornings News and Notes

Southern California: OSCC 07-11-09 0830 hrs

Shotgun Fire - CA-SQF-002025, No update today -Incident is being managed by a Type 3 organization. IC (Sanders) Fire remains 900 acres and is 50% MMA, 90 Total personnel assigned

LION CA-SQF-2139 (Yearwood Type 3 IC) Fire has consumed 138 acres and is 5700 MMA and is location 1 mile north of beach meadow on the Kern plateau in Tulare County. No reported change in incident.
Lion Fire - CA-SQF-2139 (Yearwood Type 3 IC) Fire has consumed 114 acres and is 57% MMA and is location 1 mile north of beach meadow on the Kern plateau in Tulare County. Fire is burning in Jeffrey pine, mix conifer, and lodge pole with montane chaparral fuel models: 5,8,9,10 and 11 and is creeping through mixed conifer forest with occasional single / small group tree torching - spotting up to 1/8 mile. A monitor/confine/contain strategy is being used with plan to herd the fire in a northerly direction to higher elevation and mixed conifer forest. Fire effects have been good. Incident is Lightning caused and is being managed for resources benefit purposes. Wind Speed (mph): 3-6 Temperature:77 Wind Direction: SW Relative Humidity:10-15% 40 Total personnel assigned.

Northern California: ONCC 07-11-09 0800 hrs

A FIRE WEATHER WATCH has been issued by the Medford office of the National Weather Service for WESTERN KLAMATH NATIONAL FOREST; CENTRAL SISKIYOU COUNTY INCLUDING SHASTA VALLEY; and SISKIYOU COUNTY FROM THE CASCADE MOUNTAINS EAST AND SOUTH TO MT SHASTA...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING FOR SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WITH INSUFFICIENT MOISTURE...for more information: http://fire.boi.noaa.gov/FIREWX/PDXFWFMFR.html

Backbone Incident is reported still at 5,549 acres.
7-10-09 1840hrs - There was minimal fire growth on the Backbone Incident, CA-SRF/SHF yesterday. The fire is reported this evening at5,549 acres and 25 percent containment. Line construction continues. The Red Spot experienced active consumption of heavy fuels, but minimal growth.
