Fire training in Yuba County foothills Tuesday

Firefighters will be conducting a training burn Tuesday in Yuba County at Richards Ranch, north of Englebright Reservoir, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Fire engines, handcrews and a bulldozer will be used in the training, which will start about 9:30 a.m. and last into the afternoon.

Smoke will be visible from Highway 20 and in Dobbins, Oregon House, Smartsville, Penn Valley, Lake Wildwood, French Corral, North San Juan, Grass Valley and Nevada City, according to Cal Fire.

Personnel and equipment will remain at the burn throughout the evening. Cal Fire staff will continue to check the area for several days after the burn.

The training burn is to allow Cal Fire seasonal firefighters the opportunity to experience wildland firefighting tactics in a controlled environment.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
