Coachella: 2 - 3 year old child found standing alone along roadside

Update: 5-16-09 PM - Mother located...

The Abandoned child was found standing alone on a dirt shoulder in Coachella Saturday.

The young girl, possibly 2 to 3-years-old was spotted by passers-by in Coachella Saturday.

Officers from the Coachella Police Department responded to a call at 6:40 a.m. by people passing by, who saw the girl on Avenue 48 East of Van Buren Street.

The young female child, is was possibly 2 or 3-years-old, and was wearing pink pajamas when found.

Officers from the Coachella Police Department and the Indio Police were unable to locate the girl's parents or caretakers after searching the area.

The child, who is bilingual in English and Spanish, was placed in protective custody while the search for her family continued, according to sheriff's Sgt. Alan Northrup.

How strange! She's a beautiful little girl! I hope they can find out who she is and where she belongs, and soon!

I showed the article to my mother and She started laughing...
They used to leave me behind all the time on vacations, We had a '63 Ford wagon and I always stayed in the far back with my feet hanging out the rear window.

Well anyhow I would tend to jump out at every stop and a few times no one noticed till much later....

OMG.. You have me chuckling now... Hopefully you weren't left behind for long all those times! lol

Found a news report in the Desert Sun from last night.. They'd found the child's mother and were questioning her. The child was still with CPS at that point.

Hmm... I can't seem to copy the link into the comment box... Weird..

How fires get their names

Every year in California thousands of wildfires start throughout the state. In most cases, the dispatch center sending the initial resources to a wildland fire will designate a name for the fire, but the first on scene engine or fire official can also name the incident. Fires are usually named for the area in which they start – a geographical location, local landmark, street, lake, mountain, peak, etc. Quickly naming the fire provides responding fire resources with an additional locater, and allows fire officials to track and prioritize incidents by name. For example during the Southern California Fire Siege of 2003, the largest wildland fire in California history, the Cedar Fire in San Diego County, was named after the Cedar Creek Falls area where it started. The destructive Old Fire, which burned during the same time period in San Bernardino County, was named after the road along which it started - Old Waterman Canyon Road.

CAL FIRE is the largest fire department in California and the second largest fire department in the United States. CDF - CAL FIRE Firefighters answer the call more than 300,000 times a year. CAL FIRE Firefighters make up the fire department for 30 of our 58 counties in California and more than 100 local communities. We serve as the incident command during many of California’s most serious disasters. CAL FIRE Firefighters respond to many various types and forms of calls ranging from structural fires, to auto accidents, to earthquakes, to floods, to the spilling of hazardous materials, to every conceivable disaster; CAL FIRE answer's the calls.
