SANTA ANA, Calif.—A fugitive parolee charged with killing his grandmother and setting fire to her home, endangering two children who were inside, has pleaded not guilty to murder, arson and other charges.
Joseph Ettima was charged Thursday with killing 69-year-old Emma Hardwick-Street after an argument on Jan. 19.
Los Alamitos police say Ettima's 8-year-old brother and 3-year-old niece were inside the home but escaped the fire.
The suspect fled to Mexico and was placed on the U.S. Marshals Service's 15 most wanted list. He was returned to the U.S. on Tuesday.
Orange County prosecutors say the 25-year-old could face the death penalty if convicted. He was previously convicted of robbery, battery and weapons charges.
He is being held without bail and will have a pretrial hearing on April 22.
