Vegetation Management pile burning continues on the San Bernardino National Forest, as part of the agency’s ongoing effort on hazardous fuels reduction projects on the forest to reduce the threat of wildfire to the mountain communities.
The favorable change in weather now provides opportunities to resume annual winter pile burning activities on hazardous fuels reduction projects on the forest.
Firefighting crews from the Forest Service burned about 40 piles in the Barton Flats area off Highway 38 yesterday. Crews will be on scene again today,
Smoke maybe visible to the south and/or eastern end of the Big Bear Valley.
The U.S. Forest Service continuously monitors weather conditions during pile burns and, if conditions become unsafe, burning will cease.
