CAL FIRE - Fire Station Building plans put on hold

Stimulus Shovel ready?

Ridge Road, Colfax and Smartville Cal Fire Station Construction Projects Put on Hold
The state's budget problems are effecting pretty much everyone, even firefighters. The Nevada City Station of the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, better known as Cal Fire, has been working on plans to rebuild the Ridge Road station for the past five years. That construction project was supposed to begin this spring, but, North Division Operation Assistant Chief, Randy Smith, says it's been put on hold.

He says, "All of these projects are funded through the sale of bonds, and the bond funding was frozen until the cash crisis and state budget was resolved." Smith says, "Obviously the state now has a budget," but the cash problem is not resolved. Chief Smith says similar projects at fire stations in Colfax and Smartville are also on hold. The says they'll remain on hold until the board that oversees bond sales authorizes their sale.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
