Arson Fire: Chowchilla Fairgrounds - Clarke Auditorium destroyed

Arson is suspected in a $2 million fire that destroyed Clarke Auditorium early this morning on the Chowchilla Fairgrounds.

Chowchilla Police Chief Jay A. Varney said in a prepared statement that officers were called shortly before 4 a.m. Police and firefighters from the Chowchilla Volunteer Fire Department, the California Department of Forestry and the Valley State Prison for Women in Chowchilla found the building fully engulfed in flames, Varney said.
The building could not be saved.
Clarke Auditorium was the largest building on the fairgrounds.
Varney said the fire is considered suspicious and is under investigation
