A man has collapsed and died while hiking in Topanga State Park.
Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said it took firefighters nearly 45 minutes to find the man because of darkness and heavy brush.
Humphrey said when rescuers reached the man he was unconscious.
Rescuers tried to revive him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death is under investigation.
Update: Authorities today identified a Northridge man who died after being found unconscious in Topanga State Park, a coroner's spokeswoman said.
Israel J Franco Bernabel, 67, of Northridge, died at the scene, said coroner's spokeswoman Kelly Yagerlenen.
An autopsy was pending to determine the cause of death, Yagerlenen said.
Update: 1803 hrs - Adult male hiker (unk age) declared dead at scene; Humphrey said the man was fully clothed with no obvious signs of trauma. Cause & manner of death to be determined by Coroner.
Update: 1800hrs - Patient found by LAFD copter; Now being assessed by LAFD ground crews
