Update Angora Ridge fire - Lake Tahoe - 2 acres 100%

Yesterday Lake Tahoe Fire Crews responded to a Vegetation Burn Pile re-burn.
near Angora Ridge.
11/2 acres, 100% contained.

The fire that started yesterday afternoon has been contained, according to the U.S. Forest Service. No structures burned. The fire was in an area of burn piles and was spreading from pile to pile.
The blaze traveled at a low rate of spread, but there was some torching of trees, said Forest Service Spokesman Rex Norman.

Location: Fallen Leaf and Lake Tahoe areas near Angora Ridge.
IA: 11-20- 1400hrs - The fire is at the base of Angora Ridge Road on California Tahoe Conservancy land, Quarter-acre fire burning near Fallen Leaf Lake on the east side, the Angora Ridge side.( Identified as being on land managed by the California Tahoe Conservancy.)
Fire described as being burn piles near to, but just outside the area of the 2007 Angora fire. Active fire but with low to moderate rate of speed, said Rex Norman, spokesman for the Forest Service.
Resources: South Lake Tahoe Fire Department Mutual Aid from the Lake Valley Fire Protection District and the U.S. Forest Service.
South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, the Forest Service and Lake Valley Fire Protection District responded.

Notes: The area was also described as having had hand treatments as part of a fuels reduction project, and this may have contributed to the lower rate of fire spread being reported, Norman said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated. Smoke had been reported in the area after pile burns were done in the area about three weeks ago, he added.
Norman reports that there may have been some slash pile burns done on the property by other agencies.
“Occasional smoke was seen because of pile burns and the area was being patrolled,” Norman said. “Until an investigation is completed they (fire officials) won’t declare an actual cause of it.”
"We are trying to nail it down," Norman said.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
