CONTRA COSTA COUNTY — The California Highway Patrol has issued a traffic alert on Vasco Road after three separate crashes and collisions blocked lanes in both directions three miles north of the Alameda-Contra Costa county line.

The first crash occurred at 9:15 p.m. on a blind corner of the road, CHP Officer Scott Yox said. A vehicle swerved off the road and the driver suffered moderate injuries.
Alcohol is believed to be involved in that crash, Yox said.

Another vehicle stopped to help and it was struck by a third vehicle. Someone from one of those two vehicles left their car and was struck by a fourth vehicle. Finally, a responding fire truck rear-ended the fourth vehicle, Yox said.

The driver in the original crash was taken by helicopter to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. No one else was seriously hurt.

Vasco Road was expected to be closed in both directions until about 11 p.m.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
