Cal Fire cancels burn suspension proclamation

Cal Fire cancels burn suspension proclamation affecting Humboldt, Del Norte, and Western Trinity Counties burn permits

Due to rising fuel moisture levels, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is cancelling the June 23 proclamation that suspended burning on state-owned lands in Humboldt, Del Norte and Western Trinity Counties.

All people wishing to burn are required to obtain a residential burning permit from the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District. Cal-Fire Chief Ralph Minnich advises that people who possess a current, valid burn permit can resume burning on valid burn days.

Cal-Fire requires a minimum of 10 feet of clearance around 4-foot-high piles, with an adult in attendance at all times.

Residential burn permits: Can be obtained at the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District- 707-443-3093.
Larger non-residential burn permits: Contact Cal-Fire, these permits are available at the Crescent City Cal-Fire office which can be reached at 707-464-5526.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
