September 9, 2008

Light fire activity continued throughout the states. Eight large fires and 190,869 acres burned were reported.

Crews and Incident Management Teams were sent to Marietta, Georgia, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to support Hurricane Gustav recovery operations.

Weather Discussion: The western states will remain warm and dry. Thunderstorms are possible for northern California, southern Oregon, and from the southern Sierras across the Great Basin into the Rockies.

Elmore (Shasta-Trinity National Forest): 250 acres at 25 percent contained. This fire is five miles southeast of Lakehead. Residences, power land communication lines, and railways are threatened. Evacuations are in effect.

Gulch (Shasta-Trinity National Forest): 2,935 acres at 20 percent contained. This fire is three miles west of Platina. Residences are threatened and evacuations and road closures are in effect.

Deerhorn (Hoopa Valley Tribe, Bureau of Indian Affairs): 363 acres at 60 percent contained. This fire is one mile southeast of Weitchpec. Firefighters expect to conntain the fire today.
Panther (Klamath National Forest): 48,690 acres at 75 percent contained. This complex of two fires is 14 miles southwest of Happy Camp. Active fire behavior was reported.

Siskiyou/ Blue 2 Complex (Klamath National Forest): 80,280 acres at 95 percent contained. This complex consists of both the Siskiyou and Blue 2 complexes. The complex is 18 miles southwest of Happy Camp. Minimal fire activity was reported.

East Slide Rock Ridge (Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest): 54,549 acres at 50 percent contained. This fire is 15 miles southeast of Jarbidge.

Rattle (Umpqua National Forest): 2,238 acres at 10 percent contained. This fire is 30 miles east of Glide. Structures and power lines are threatened. Highway 138 is closed.
