Fire communication radio repeater - Solar panels stolen

Shasta–McCloud Management Unit mountain top fire communication radio repeater power panels stolen

It was discovered today that four solar panels supplying power to a mountain top radio repeater in the Shasta–McCloud Management Unit were stolen within the last two weeks. This repeater is the main communication link between fire suppression resources and the command center. The loss of power to this site will make communication with remote fire crews difficult.

If anyone has information on the missing panels, please contact Shasta-Trinity law enforcement at 530-226-2592 or 530-926-9616.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
