Fuels Involved

The fuels within the Complex range greatly from mixed conifer forests with a grass/shrub understory; oak woodlands;scattered brushfields & open hillsides; to heavy concentrations of down, dead fuels and densely forested areas in the drainage bottoms.Area's currently burning consist of Chaparral, Oak Woodlands, and Grass.

Fire Behavior

Active ground fire through heavy fuel concentrations and within the Dead Puppy Ridge burnout, short uphill runs, isolated and group torching, and short range spotting.

Significant Events

Continued burnout between the head of the Grouse Fire and the Yellow Fire along Dead Puppy Ridge.

Outlook

Planned Actions

Actions for the next operation period will include air patrol on the Trough Fire, the northwestern perimeter of the Vinegar Fire, and Division a of the Yellow Fire. Patrol and mop up the southern perimeter of the Vinegar and Yellow Fire. Patrol and pull equipment in Division K on the Yellow fire. Burnout operations on the head end of the Grouse fire between Dead Puppy Ridge and the Yellow Fire will continue. Prep for burnout operations between the Grouse Fire and the head of the Vinegar Fire. The fire suppression rehabilitation group will begin reconnaissance on the Trough Fire and the northeast portion of the Vinegar Fire. Crews will continue to spike as they progress further into the wilderness, and to facilitate early evening burnout operations. IA resources are available as needed.

Ownership within the Complex consist of approximately 46,614 acres on the Mendocino National Forest, 30,047 on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, 632 acres on California State Lands, 80 acres on Six Rivers National Forest, 467 acres of small private in-holdings, 78 acres of BLM lands. Fire acreage, ownership, and containment percentage: Grouse Fire(3028ac)-2704 acres-Mendocino NF, 324 acres Shasta-Trinity NF-15% contained: Vinegar Fire- (41,956ac)-14,692 acres Mendocino NF, 26,204 acres Shasta-Trinity NF, 632 acres of state lands, 350 acres of private lands, and 78 acres of BLM lands-50% contained, Yellow Fire-(29,248 ac), 29,218 acres Mendocino NF, 30 acres Six Rivers NF-50% contained, Trough Fire-(3,686 ac) 3,519 acres Shasta Trinity NF, 50 acres Six Rivers NF, 117 acres private-100% contained. The 30 acres on the Yellow Fire within the Six Rivers National Forest does not go to the east of Road 27N02. IR confirms that the fires within the wilderness continue to grow daily. With the predicted weather, the potential for fire to move out of the wilderness remains.
