Most of the fire spread was backing fire.

Significant Events

Highway 70 continues to use a pilot car operation. Crews made significant progress on the southern perimeter with the completion of burnout operations in the Fales Basin area. Crews continue to construct direct and indirect handline on the eastern perimeters. Moderate slopover occurred from burnout operations on the northwestern portion of the fire near the 26N22 road. Helicopter bucket drops were heavily used in conjunction with hand crews and engines. Evacuated residents are being escorted into their property for a short term assessment of damage. However, no evacuees are being allowed back into their residences on a permanent basis.

Planned Actions

Provide wildland suppression in and around structures in the Rich Gulch, Rush Creek and Virgilia areas. South of the river (Branch I): secure all lines and begin mop up in all divisions. North of the river on the western and northern flanks: secure lines and continue mop up. On the eastern flank, continue mop up. Complete line and cold-trailing from Rush Creek north to Road 26N67.

Resources on this incident include 8 helicopters, 57 engines, 10 dozers, 21 water tenders, 10 Type 1 hand crews and 13 Type 2 hand crews. Acres shown above reflects combined acreage for both the Rich and Belden fires. Rich Fire is 5,897 acres and is 45% contained. Belden Fire is 474 acres and is 70% contained.
