Wildland fire activity increased in Texas, California, and Montana. Weather conditions may continue to increase fire activity in the next few days.
A total of 41 large fires have burned 530,747 acres. Nine new large fires were reported: one each in Arkansas and Colorado; two each in Texas and California; and three in Montana. Five large fires were contained: one each in Arkansas, Montana, and Utah; and two in Texas.
Australia and New Zealand are providing 44 fire specialists and managers to assist with fire suppression operations in California.
Weather Discussion: Thunderstorms are predicted for northern California and southern Oregon this afternoon and evening. Wetter thunderstorms are expected for southern California, southern Great Basin, Wyoming, and southern Montana. The rest of the western states will be warm and dry.
