Today marks the official start of fire season in both Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
"There will be a major fire this year in California," said Ben Parker, Administrative Chief for Cal Fire. "We have them every year, so the big thing is people have to be prepared if one does occur.
Parker says they can't do it alone. Residents need to pitch in.
The biggest help is clearing at least 100 feet of brush near your home. "Doing that can make an incredible difference in the ability for us to provide protection," Parker said.
