CA-TGU-Colyer - Escaped burn - 2000 acres 55 percent

Update: Colyear Fire - 2,000 acres -55% contaiment - Full contaiment expected on Friday May 9 at 6 p.m.

Colyear Incident is 55 percent contained this morning at 2000 acres. Decreased winds and good humidity recovery during the night allowed crews to make significant progress with line construction. The fire is burning in a steep area with difficult access and extended travel time for resources.

Initial Attack: 20:45hrs - Ben Sales Ranch - Escaped burn
Location: Western Tehama County - Colyear Springs Rd. and Franklin Point; 30 miles west of Red Bluff and east of Colyer Springs Road.
Latitude and Longitude - Lat: 40° 3´ 59" Long: 122° 44´ 41"
Incident Commander: RAPP
Initial Sizeup: Wind driven fire spreading to over 1,000 ac, Occasional torching
WUI Exposures: No structures are threatened, Some scattered houses and cabins
Evacuations: None
Resources: Full wildland fire response - 235 firefighters, 3 Salt Creek crews, multiple local gov engines from the west side, some Type 3's and a couple of dozers - 6 private HE-list dozers and water tenders controlled by the land owner reported to be on fireline. Tanker 76 diverted from the ATGS class enroute, AA410 and AT82 from Columbia AAB assigned to the fire
Comms: Colyear IC COM - 151.175 TAC - TGU Local 151.370,
Terrain: Steep Canyons, Heavy brush, Very limited access.
Fire Behavior: Currently Medium Rate of spread, Winds are a major concern

Fuels/Materials Involved: 4 Chaparral (6 Feet)

Notes: Landowner Ben Sales attempted to control the escaped fire on his own with hired water tenders and dozer's prior to calling CAL FIRE.
Remarks(209): 3 DAY OLD PRESCRIBED BURN ESCAPED LANDOWNERS CONTROL.LANDOWNER CONTACTED TGU ECC, GAVE AN ESTIMATE OF A 1200 ACRE ESCAPE AND REQUESTED ASSISTANCE.
