Chemical spill in Warm Springs
Fremont - A large truck overturned early Thursday morning, trapping its driver and spilling acid and other chemicals in Warm Springs.
At about 6:10 a.m., Fremont Fire Department personnel responded to the accident on Warm Springs Boulevard, south of South Grimmer Boulevard.
The truck was carrying multiple one-gallon containers of pool chemicals, including chlorine and muriatic acid. As many as five containers broke open on the road, creating a chemical cloud over the scene, reports state.
Crews were able to free the driver, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The chemicals were neutralized and a private cleanup crew arrived to haul away any residue left behind, reports state.
Fremont fire Capt. Gerry Fogel said it took about two hours to clean the scene. He added the driver likely fell asleep at the wheel, and struck a mound of dirt on the side of the road. The truck was then launched about 50 feet and flipped.
