The Central Calaveras Fire and Rescue Protection District has a new fire chief, John MacMillan, who replaced interim chief Terry Miller March 1.
MacMillan, 54, comes from Lebanon, Ore., where he operated his own firefighter training facility for 10 years, Professional Firefighter Training.
He began his career with Cal Fire in 1978, beginning as a volunteer but eventually working his way up to battalion chief during his 20-year tenure.
MacMillan has had a lifelong interest in firefighting and said he wanted to be a firefighter since the age of 5, when his experience was limited to playing with toy fire trucks. He was also a fire cadet in Boy Scouts.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.
