Nevada: Search Continues For Brianna Denison

The Search Continues In Nevada For Missing Student

RENO, Nev. (AP) ― As the search for her continues a fourth week, family and friends are still clinging to hope for the safe return of the beautiful 19-year-old college student.

Hundreds of volunteers on Sunday combed areas around Reno for any sign of Brianna Denison, who police say was abducted Jan. 20 by a psychotic serial rapist linked by DNA to a string of attacks near the University of Nevada, Reno campus.

Many local college students have joined the search teams including a group of students from Sierra Nevada College in nearby Incline Village had planned to join the search, which will continue on a daily basis as long as interest remains high, organizers said.

"A lot of students are just really excited they can do something to help the situation," Liz Hernandez, an administrative assistant for the college's student affairs office, told the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza.

Numerous other freelance searchers and volunteer private detectives are arriving in Nevada quietly chasing down leads they have developed on their own and in cooperation with other on-line cyber sleuths and now the laptops, binoculars and boot's are hitting the ground hopefully some of this hard work will pan out soon.

Claudette Springmeyer, a spokeswoman for the volunteer search center based at Circus Circus Hotel & Casino, estimated 1,700 volunteers have searched a 100-square-mile area around Reno over the last three weeks.

Plans call for the search center to be moved Saturday to a Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center building on North Arlington Avenue in Reno.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
