The Chico Fire Department and Cal Fire spent some of the week teaching a small group of Japanese rescue instructors how to save people from danger. They went through some cliff rescue training sessions in which a pulley is used to lift a man out of danger.
Some of the learning takes awhile because words get lost in translation, but the visitors say they have learned a lot. “The US rescue standard is much higher than Japan,” Takeaharo Sato told Action News, “So we learn a lot of things from the US which is why I bring students here. The standard is higher, especially the California standard.”
The group will return to their homeland on Wednesday.
