CA-LAC Canyon Incident - Major vegetation fire - LA County maps and updates:
1000+ acres 4 miles long -No containment-
Mandatory evacuations on the north side of PCH from Bluffs Park about two miles to the west, Puerco Canyon area.
Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon Road.
Voluntary evacuations:
For residents living along a three-mile stretch of beachfront homes on Malibu Road.
3 houses destroyed including "Castle house", 9 houses damaged,
Fire was sparked just before 5 a.m. on Malibu Canyon Road, It is a believed high-voltage power lines had snapped and sparked the blaze.
Fire is burning in two directions: one prong went to the southwest, towards Pepperdine and destroyed at least one home south of Malibu Canyon Road. It reached Pacific Coast Highway at Bluffs Park by 8:30.
The eastern prong of the fire burned down the canyon's east side, and took at least one house in Serra Estates, a forested subdivision full of multimillion-dollar estates, horse corrals and a historic monastery.
The western prong of the fire is spreading further west.

  • Several Involved structures on beach.
  • Serra Estates evacuated.
  • Fire official Inspector Ron Haralson said structure at Hughes Lab is on fire.
  • Witness interviewed said homes have been lost.
  • Malibu Presbyterian Church is lost.
  • Several houses on the south side of Malibu Canyon Road, overlooking the Malibu Civic Center, were also burning at 9:15 a.m.
  • Trees at the Malibu Colony Shopping Center in the city center had reportedly burned, and flames have moved right up to the fire command post on the grass at Malibu Bluffs Park.
  • Power in much of Malibu was out
  • Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon Road.
