A recommended evacuation order remains in place for the area west of Hwy 33 from the Santa Barbara/Ventura Co. line south to Pine Mountain Inn.
A recommended evacuation is issued when the fire has advanced to a position where it can pose a imminent danger to life and property (i.e., time to leave).

In the Live Oak zone, the fire that is burning in the island within the Santa Cruz drainage continues to creep around and again in the Richardson zone last night there was minimal fire behavior. Firefighters are continuing to improve the situation on the northwestern flank and islands of fuel are continuing to burn out in the north.
The active fire behavior on eastern flank continued again yesterday with spotting and runs up the south facing slopes. Air tankers and helicopters were supporting crews on the ground as they worked to create a line and suppress the spotfires to the north west of Hwy 33. There was minimal fire behavior in the other areas.
The fire made a significant push north on friday, between the Cuyama River wash and the eastern boundary of the Dick Smith Wilderness. Fast winds had pushed the fire across the Brubaker containment line near Highway 33 in the north yesterday. Crews worked overnight that night in the northeast area of the Richardson Zone* to contain several spot fires that started, including a 250-acre spot fire in Brubaker Canyon west of Highway 33.
The fire continues to have growth potential as it tries to move north but firefighters are confident of their ability to keep the fire to the west of Highway 33.
Firefighters have done well at the northwest corner of the fire. The fireline was completed north and south of the Sisquoc River and aerial reconnaissance has shown no spread of the fire in this area.
The management strategy in the Live Oak Zone has succeeded and as firefighting activity slows in the south, the firefighting activity in the northern areas of the fire still remains busy. The Live Oak Zone of the Zaca Fire is now fully contained and the focus is to patrol, mop up and rehabilitate the areas affected by the fire. Rehabilitation efforts in the Live Oak zone are ongoing. Road closures and evacuations associated with the Live Oak fire suppression activities on the south have been lifted. The public should be aware however, that all areas and roads included within the Los Padres National Forest Closure Area remain closed to public entry.

Containment is estimated at 85%.
The size of the fire is now 241,550 acres. Command staff is still expecting containment by September 7th. The last estimated was at 102.6 million dollars. Over 2,466 personnel are currently working on this fire.
*Incident Command has divided the fire into 2 closely coordinated zones. The northern portion will be the Richardson Zone" and the southern portion will be the "Live Oak Zone"

Other areas in Los Padres National Forest may be closed due to the Zaca Fire emergency. This is due to the difficulty of evacuating forest visitors from remote areas should the fire spread and concerns for the firefighters while they build contingency lines several miles from the active fire. ****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
