New Cuyama- On the northeast perimeter of the Zaca Fire, the fire continues to be active in the Deal and Rancho Nuevo Canyons in the Dick Smith Wilderness, three miles west of Highway 33. As a result of the activity, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office issued a precautionary evacuation for residents along the west side of Highway 33 from the Venture/Santa Barbara County Line to Pine Mountain Summit.
Beginning at 10:00 am today, Highway 33 between Ventucopa and Wheeler Gorge will close to all traffic, including residents. The closure is required due to a backfire operation planned for today along Highway 33 from the Pine Mountain Road to Ozena.
