Inciweb: Vista Wildland Fire - 200 acres - 20 percent

Vista Wildland Fire

INCIDENT UPDATED 60 MIN. AGO

Summary

Firefighters continue suppression efforts on the Vista fire located in the remote area of the Sequoia National Forest. The Vista fire is currently 320 acres and 10% contained.

The fire is currently burning in a critical aquatic refuge for California golden trout and continues to threaten important habitat for the California spotted owl, northern goshawk and Pacific fisher. These habitats have high value due to the isolation and fragmentation of suitable habitat for these species created by the McNally and Manter fires.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
