ANGORA FIRE - Recovery information

ANGORA FIRE SBA OFFICE TO CLOSE:

ANGORA FIRE Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Center to close

The Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Center at Lake Tahoe Community College will close at 7 p.m., Friday, August 10, 2007. The SBA offers low-interest disaster loans to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations to repair or replace property damaged in the Angora Fire. It also offers working capital loans to small businesses to meet fire-related needs.

The interest rate for homeowners and renters is 2.875 percent and 4 percent for businesses with terms up to 30 years tailored to the applicant's ability to make payments. The money covers the gap between what insurance covers and actual cost of rebuilding or replacement. Fire victims don't need to wait for a settlement to apply for a loan.

* The deadline for property damage applications is September 4, 2007.
* The deadline for businesses to file forms for economic injury loans is April 7, 2008.

After the SBA's disaster center closes, loan applicants can mail completed forms to:

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
