CAL FIRE Crews Being Released From Vegetation Fire

Wednesday, July 11, 2007 - 06:05 AM

San Andreas, CA -- The CAL FIRE Emergency Command Center is reporting that the vegetation fire near 3497 Murphys Grade Rd. has been contained.

A water tender was ordered shortly after 5:30 but that order has now been rescinded.

E.C.C. Fire Captain Mark Steward reports the fire was caused by a lightning strike in a tree. He adds there was another lightning caused fire in the high country overnight between Dorrington and West Point and there are several other active fires that have been caused by the lightning.

According to Steward Columbia Air Base will initiate reconnaissance flights today so "smokes" can be located and mapped by G.P.S. Resource staging will also take place at the Arnold CDF station today.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
