  • A damage assessment crew has been requested.
Planned actions: CALFIRE will begin a firing operation on Buckhorn Ridge and Burma Grade near Briceburg today in an effort to put a semi-circle of fuel-depleted land in front of the advancing blaze. If it is successful, the operation will provide anchor points on two sides of the fire, and in the middle.
Notes: Some fire lines were established on the ridge lines overnight as the perimeter of the fire settled down, but the center of the fire continued to rage overnight. "Right now the fire is dictating to us what we can do," said Incident Commander Bill Hodson following Sunday morning's briefing.
Hodson has stepped aside as incident commander as CAL FIRE Team 8 takes charge of the unified command that includes the Mariposa County Sheriff's Department, Mariposa County Fire, and the U.S. Forest Service.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
