Nearly 1 Million Displaced In State's Biggest Ever Evacuation

Over 300,000 acres - 600 square miles of land and homes have burned in San Diego County and Los Angeles area wildland fires

Fire name: Canyon Fire - CA-LAC-Canyon Incident
Location: Malibu Canyon to the beach
Current size: 4,500 acres,
Evacuations: Communities threatened are around Carbon Canyon,. Las Flores Canyon., Carbon Mesa, Rambla Pacifico, Tuna Cyn., and the top of Piuma near Schueren Rd.
Notes:
Red Flag warnings have been extended until 1500 hours, 10/24/07.

Los Angeles County Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman said five single family home and two commercial buildings -- a glass company and Malibu Presbyterian Church -- were destroyed in Malibu.
Nine single family homes and five commercial buildings had been damaged, he said of the blaze that consumed 1,200 acres.

Evacuations: Evacuations in communities of Halsey, Oak Canyon, Val Verde, and Piru Evacuation Center at Fillmore Veterans Memorial Bldg., 511 Second St., Fillmore. Large Animal Evacuations to Ventura County Fairgrounds, Small animal evacuations to Camarillo Animal Shelter.
Communities threatened: Hasley, Piru, Follmore ans Sespe Village.
Notes: Incident Base is at the Castaic Park.
multiple structures lost, The fire may burn across Hwy 126.
Outlook
Planned Actions Crews to hold existing lines on the east and north flanks and construct line on the south and west utilizing existing areas where the fire intensity has diminished. Provide residence and infrastructure protection.

Control:Magic and Ranch fire are now on opposite sides of Hwy 126 at the LA-Ventura County line and are about 2 miles apart. , (California Travel Guide 89 K2).
Problems: A Red Flag fire weather warning is predicted until 1600 hours tomarrow. Heavy smoke in the affected areas.

WITCH CREEK AREA, EAST OF RAMONA
Current size: 196,420 acres. 0% contaiment
WUI: 5,000 structures threatened Structures lost in Poway, Rancho Bernardo, 100 more homes destroyed or damaged just yesterday, mainly in Del Dios (Lake Hodges) area. In addition the San Diego City damage assessment has begun and preliminary estimates place the number of destroyed homes in the city alone at 480, with 65 more damaged, mostly in the Rancho Bernardo area.
Evacuations: Julian is under mandatory evacuation as are other communities. 36,000 people evacuated, Fire is currently passing through many communities and evacuations are in progress.
Communities threatened: Julian, Pine Hills, San Diego, Poway, Ramona, Escondido, Lakeside, Valley Center, San Marcos, Rancho Santa Fe, Ricon, Wildcat Canyon, Ranco Bernardo, San Diego
Injuries: There are 20 civilian injuries, casualties are probable.
Fire Behavior: The fire is heading to Carmel Mountain Ranch 4-S Ranch.
IC: CIMT 5 (Dietrich) is now assigned to the Witch
Notes: Continued high winds with high temps and low relative humidities are expected to continue through Wednesday.

Location: Lake Arrowhead area. in the area of Highway18 and Waterman Grass Valley area of the San Bernardino NF well-established in the Grass Valley drainage area.
GPS: 34° 16´ 24" Long: 117° 12´ 55"
Sizeup: 75 acres
Current size: 1000+ acres
Evacuations: FIRES IN THE AREA ARE BURNING, EVACUATIONS IN PROCESS
Communities threatened: Crestline, Thousand Pine Valley, Valley of Enchantment, Strawberry Flat, Valley of the Moon, Blue Jay, Lake Arrowhead, Lake Greg, Arrowhead highlands. Seasonal and vacation recreation areas.

Notes: There are two fires burning on the San Bernardino National Forest. One is the Grass Fire, it is burning Northwest of Lake Arrowhead. The other is the Slide fire

The Green Valley and Slide fires are being managed as one fire.
Location: Green Valley Lake near Running Springs

WUI: No injuries, 75 to 100 structures have been destroyed in the Community of Arrowhead, 10 to 15 structures have been destroyed in Green Valley Lake
Evacuations: Evacuations are in place for Arrow Bear, Arrowhead, Running Springs, Green Valley Lake, Twin Peaks. Communities threatened: Green Valley, Running Springs, Live Oak, Fredalba, Smiley Park, Clavery Chapel Camp, National Childre's Forest and Visitors Center, Arowwbear lake, Snow Valley, Nordic Rim Ski Area and Deer Lick.
Road Closures: All roads going to the mountain communities are closed.
Notes: The fire has an extreme rate of spread.

Erratic winds from 40 -60 mph were reported. and over 200 residents were reported to have been evacuated last night.

Communities threatened: Silverado, Modjeska, Trabuco, Live Oak, Williams, Holy Jim and Cleveland National Forest.
Problems: Changing wind patterns and critical fire weather conditions have continued to produce severe fire behavior with rapid rated of spread.
WUI: 1 structure destroyed, 2 structures damaged
Notes: Unified Command with City of Orange.

Current size: 38,356 acres,
WUI: Communities threatened: Santa Clarita, Castaic, Mint Canyon, Bouquet reservoir, DWP distribution lines, Edison distribution lines, the Veluzat Ranch and Blue Cloud Ranch movie set. 25 structures lost, with 3,800 structures threatened in Santa Clarita Area, Fire burning towards Magic Mountain,
Evacuations: MANDATORY evacuations of upper Bouquet Canyon and Vasquez Canyon as well as the San Francisquito Canyon and Copperhill areas, up to Spunky Canyon
Injuries:
3 civilian injuries, (1 major, 2 Minor). 1 minor firefighter injury
Notes: Winds increasing through canyons.
CHECK SANTA CLARITA FIRE UPDATES - A total of 25 structures have been lost at this time due to the fire;
A total of more than 30,000 acres have burned thus far; 25 structures lost,
3,800 structures threatened in Santa Clarita Area, , Historic structures may have also burned.
Fire burning towards Magic Mountain, 3 civilian injuries, (1 major, 2 Minor). 1 minor firefighter injury . winds increasing through canyons.
Problems: High winds associated with extreme Santa Ana Conditions. Red Flag weather conditions predicted for the next 24 to 48 hours. Critically low live fuel moisture and single digit relative humidity. Heavy smoke in the affected areas. A large number of residential and commercial structures in the path of the fire.

Fire name: Harris Fire - CA-MVU-HARRIS IC - San Diego County

Location: Harris Ranch Road and HWY 94 Near Potrero. Google Map
Sizeup: 100 acres burning into Portrero County Park. 2-3 structures lost at this time.
Current size: 73,000 acres,
Evacuations: Communities threatened: Lyons Peak, Chula Vista, San Diego, San Miguel, Potrero, Barrett Junction, Barrett Lake area, Engineer Springs, Dulzura, Deerhorn Valley, Lawson Valley, Jamul, Lyons Valley and homes along Millar Ranch Road.
Notes: Southwest powerline is off. CDF Portrero Fire station was burned by. Fire has crossed Highway 94. Running through structures Per Harris OSC.
Problems: Extreme fire behavior due to fuel and weather conditions. East/northeast winds are active in the eastern portion of the fire. A more normal onshore flow is influencing the western portion. This wind confluence is causing erratic fire behavior. Heavy fuels and steep terrain on the northern edge of the fire.

Fire name: RICE FIRE - CA-MVU- Rice, MVU incident, but due to resource drawdown LGA North County FPD is handling the incident.

Location: Area of Rice Canyon Rd/Rainbow Heights along I-15 just south of Riverside County Line.
Sizeup: 300 acres
Current size: 7500 acres 0% contained, Structures involved and evacuations in progress.
Resources:CAL FIRE is sending a single resource off of the Pauma fire from overnight to assist under command of NCFPD IC. 250 residences threatened, lack of resources a major problem
Evacuations: No mandatory evacuations at this time.
Notes: The fire has jumped I-15 and Hwy 395. It is burning into Fallbrook, 1 structure has burned.250 structures are threatened, 1 structure destroyed, I-15 is closed from Rainbow to Hwy 76.
Problems: Erratic and Extreme fire behavior. Red Flag Warnings

Location: Brinkerhoff Rd/ Sedgewick Ranch/ Figueroa Mtn Lat: 34° 44´ 3" Long: 120° 0´ 18"
Resources:CAL FIRE is sending a single resource off of the Pauma fire from overnight to assist under command of NCFPD IC. 250 residences threatened, lack of resources a major problem
Evacuations: No mandatory evacuations at this time.
Current size: 710 acres, possibly contained
Notes: Central Coast Team #7 (Jim Smith, IC) will take over command at 0600 hrs.

Fire name: Coronado Incident - Coronado Hills (CA-SMC-20070005592)
Location: Brinkerhoff Rd/ Sedgewick Ranch/ Figueroa Mtn Lat: 34° 44´ 3" Long: 120° 0´ 18"
Current size: 300+ acres, 0% containment. The fire is heading to Elfin Forest and Harmony Grove - Multiple structures lost in Discover Hills, San Marcos.
Notes:
Evacuations: Evacuations in place at this time.

Fire name: Stevenson Fire - CA-LAC-Stevenson Ranch
Location: Valencia - Stevenson Ranch area near Santa Clarita - In a canyon north of Stevenson Ranch subdivision, South of Magic Mountain
Fire has jumped Potero Rd.
Initial Sizeup: 1/4 acre
Current size: 50 acres.+ acres, 0% containment.

Fire name: Magic Fire - CA-LAC-Magic
Location: near Valencia in canyon N of Stevenson Ranch subdivision, South of Magic Mountain
fire has jumped Potero Rd.
Cause: Power lines
Initial Sizeup: 1/4 acre
Current Size: 2,824 acres.
Notes:a Division of the Buckweed and is 95% contained at 2,824 acres.

Fire name: Poomacha fire - CA-xxx-Poomacha
Location: Fire is located at Highway 76 and Pauma Valley (Thomas Brother Map Page 409 E7).
The fire started on the La Jolla Indian Reservation. The fire has spread into Valley Center and Yellow Brick Road areas.
The fire, which has spotted across Highway 76 and is established on the south face of Palomar Mountain at the base of Palomar Mountain and the Poomacha fire is about to burn into the north flank of the Witch fire.
Cause: The fire originated in a structure and spread into the vegetation.
Resources: There are 15 engines, 2 water tenders (60 firefighters).
Initial Sizeup:
Current Size: 23,000 acres and 5% contained.
Injuries: There has been 8 injuries to firefighters. (Unconfirmed)
Notes: CAL FIRE ICT#4 to assume command.The Fire has claimed more than 40 houses and structures at the Rincon and La Jolla reservations, said Jim Fletcher, superintendent of the Bureau of Indian Affairs for Southern California. About 15 houses have burned on the Rincon reservation, and 25 at La Jolla, he said. That fire also burned houses on the Barona reservation.
He would not confirm reports of injuries.
Evacuations: Law Enforcement has started the reverse 911 to initiate evacuations of entire Hwy 76 corridor. A mandatory evacuation notice has been issued for people in the La Jolla Reservation area. People should go to Borrego Springs. People SHOULD NOT go to the Palomar Mountain Evacuation center.

This fire started at 11:49 a.m. October 23 and has
burned 350 acres
Current size: 7,500 acres
Evacuations: 50 and 53 on Camp Pendleton have been
evacuated.
Problems: Power on Camp Pendleton has been affected, no reports of outages from residents near Camp Pendleton. Fire is spotting acress I-5 onto the San Onofre State Park. There is no threat to the Nuclear Power Plant.
Road closures: I-5 southbound is closed at Basilone northbound at Las Pulgas due to smoke and downed power lines.
Operations: Threat to San Onofre Peak, power grids from San Onofre Power Plant, Military barracks. Estimated potential 2000+ acres.

Notes: Major problems and concerns

Notes: No communities are currently threatened. 182 firefighters are assigned to this fire under Los Angeles County command.
