CA-LAC-Buckweed Fire - Vegetation Fire - Agua Dulce

MANDATORY evacuations of upper Bouquet Canyon and Vasquez Canyon as well as the San Francisquito Canyon and Copperhill areas, up to Spunky Canyon
A total of 10 structures have been lost at this time due to the fire;
A total of more than 10,000 acres have burned thus far;

3800 structures threatened, Historic structures may have also burned.
Resources: Los Angeles County Fire, L.A. County Sheriff and the City of Santa Clarita are responding to the emergency with personnel and equipment.

October 22, 2007 - UPDATE 9:45am

Mandatory Evacuation: Bouquet Canyon Rd. to Pitchess North of Copper Hill.

October 22, 2007 - UPDATE 9:30am

Mandatory Evacuation: North of Copper Hill from Decoro Dr. to Bouquet Canyon/David Way.

October 22, 2007 - UPDATE 10:54am

Road Closure: Copper Hill east of Haskell Canyon

At this time the fire is moving towards the Tesoro del Valle development off San Fransquito Canyon, and the San Fransquito Canyon area, north of Copper Hill. Residents in these areas are urged to prepare for a probable evacuation.

BUCKWEED INCIDENT - NEW INFO

  • 680 Firefighters on scene
  • 10 Assisting agencies
  • 25,000 Acres
  • 10% Containment
  • 25 Structures Destroyed
  • 4 Injuries (1 Fire Fighter - Minor, 3 Civilian - 1 Severe, 2 minor)
  • 3,800 Homes threatened
  • Residents urged to limit their travel within the city to a minimum, allowing for movement of emergency vehicles
October 22, 2007 - UPDATE 8:35am
  • A total of 25 structures have been lost at this time due to the fire;
  • A total of more than 125,000 Acres have burned thus far;
  • MANDATORY evacuations of upper Bouquet Canyon and Vasquez Canyon have been announced as well as the San Francisquito Canyon and Copperhill areas, up to Spunky Canyon.
  • A total of 3,800 residences are threatened as a result of the fire and further evacuations may be announced this evening;
  • Animal evacuations are being coordinated by the L.A. County Sheriff and Animal Control.
  • Only residents are being allowed into the evacuation areas;
  • Both the Saugus Union School District and the Castaic School District have announced that there will be no school tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 22, 2007.

The following road closures are in affect:
Sierra Highway and David Way
Bouquet Canyon and David Way
Bouquet and Vasquez Canyon
Aqua Dulce and Sierra Highway
Sierra Highway and Vasquez Canyon
Whites Canyon and Steinway

October 21st - 5:20 p.m.
Whites Canyon Road and Steinway Street are closed to through traffic due to the approaching fire from the north.

October 21st - 4:30 p.m.
The Buckweed Fire in Agua Dulce is currently burning out of control, with 2,000 acres burned thus far. The fire has actually split and the two fires are burning on Sierra Highway.
This fire has resulted in the following road closures:

Sierra Highway is closed in both directions at Davenport Road.
Bouquet Canyon is closed at both Plum Canyon and Copperhill Road.
Lombardi Ranch has been evacuated as has Lily of the Valley Mobile Home Park.
At this time, an evacuation center is being set up at Saugus High School. The fire does appear to be moving toward the City of Santa Clarita. Los Angeles County Fire, L.A. County Sheriff and the City of Santa Clarita are responding to the emergency with personnel and equipment.
