Cleghorn CA-BDF-Cleghorn CA-BDF-11316, Devore, San Bernardino County
Road Closures:Northbound I-15 was closed for approximately two hours on the evening of the 17th, causing traffic to back up to the 210 Freeway. Today all lanes are open, however the right shoulder of I-15 is closed. Motorists are asked to exercise caution as firefighters and equipment are working along the freeway shoulder.
Hwy 138 was also temporarily closed Saturday evening, but has been re-opened. Two businesses at the intersection of I-15 and Hwy 138 (McDonalds and Chevron) were evacuated Saturday evening, but have since re-opened.
Cleghorn Rd Exit and Cleghorn OHV Road 2N47 remain closed. Old Route 66 is closed between Kenwood Ave. and Cleghorn Rd. Lost Lake Day Use Area is closed due to helicopter operations.
Incident Overview
Two fires started in Cajon Pass Saturday 8/17 at about 5:20 pm. They are being managed as one incident. The fires both started on the east side of I-15 and south of Cleghorn Road. The southern smaller fire is fully contained and is being mopped up at this time. The northern fire burned rapidly northeast and crossed Cleghorn Road 2N47. Fire crews did a great job holding that fire to 110 acres. Today crews are working on containment lines on the northern larger fire. It is considered 45% contained at this time.
Update 8-17 1830: 75 to 100 acres. USFS starting an AA and night flying Helicopter. Column is really starting to build. I-15 Traffic is completely stopped and people are standing outside their vehicles.
Update 8-17 1815: 40-50 acres Moderate to rapid rate of spread, Evacuating the McDonalds and the shell Station, sounds like the winds have increased fire intensity.
Update 8-17 1800: Southern fire is now 3-5 ac, slow to moderate ROS.
Northern fire is now 15 ac, Moderate to Rapid ROS, under the powerlines, about to cross Cleghorn road. Per AA 12, nothing out in front to stop it....Discussing evacuations at 138 and 15
