Midnight Oil: Butte Co Conditions, July 9 00:00

As the valley struggles to cool off after a scorching hot day, Butte County Sheriff is still working to evacuate those areas of Paradise under immediate threat orders. Notifying the portions under precautionary evacuations is another part of their job in these circumstances.

Details of evacuation areas may be found at: http://www.buttecounty.net/Default.aspx?tabid=526; here's what we have at the moment.

As of midnight, July 9, the areas under IMMEDIATE THREAT EVACUATION ORDERS are:
All residents on the East side of Pentz Road from the Skyway at Pentz Rd. south to the Town limits at Malibu Drive;
All residents south of Wagstaff Road to Bille Road between Clark Road and Pentz Road and south of Bille Road to the southern Paradise town limits between Sawmill Road and Pentz Road;
The areas of Butte Meadows, Jonesville, and Boy Scount Camp Lassen; Concow, Camelot and surrounding areas;

BERRY CREEK, an immediate threat evacuation order has been issued for the area east and south of Lake Madrone, both north and south of Bald Rock Road.
South of Bald Rock Road, the evacuation order covers the area bounded by Graystone Lane, Coyote Road and Jatko Road, south of Coyote Road, south to Big Ridge Road where it crosses Canyon Creek on the west; Big Ridge Road from Canyon Creek to Indian Cemetery Road and Oro Vista Drive and all side roads.
The evacuation notice also covers the area west of a line between the intersection of Oro Vista Drive and Bean Creek Road to Four M Court on the east.
On the north side of Bald Rock Road, the evacuation covers the area between Bald Rock Road and Four M Court, north and east to the intersection with Zinc Road; the area between the intersection of Bald Rock Road and Zinc Road west on Zinc Road to the end of Rockview Drive, then in a line from the end of Rockview Drive to Lake Madrone Road where it crosses Berry Creek, including all side roads and Arkie Court.

(Information on exact immediate evacuation areas is per Chico Enterprise Record and Paradise Post.)

PRECAUTIONARY EVACUATION AREAS:
Upper Ridge area east of Skyway from lower Coutolenc Road to DeSabla Reservoir and all cross streets running east of Skyway.
The precautionary evacuation includes Coutolenc Road from the Skyway to Lucretia Road; Old Magalia, including Bader Mine Road and the El Dorado Mobile Home Park; the Skyway between Pentz and Coutolenc and the east side of Pentz Road, south of Paradise, from Malibu to Durham Pentz Road.

Active fire is reported above Pulga at this time.

Hwy 70 is closed to all, including residents, due to rising fire and falling snags.

Once again today, visibility was the deciding factor in much of the available air support. MAFFS units were used, released, and apparently returned as well. Blackhawk copters were in use wherever it became possible to safely make runs. As the day wore on, the scanner traffic became somewhat hopeful--if the wind held, if nothing changed, things were looking pretty good.

We sincerely hope that there are no further losses to these fires in Butte County. Losses of structures have been confirmed in the Camelot/Concow area, with numbers varying from five to forty residences lost or damaged.

We will, as usual, update when we have more.

  1. As being a former Camelot/Concow resident, I am so praying for all of you that lost your home. So many are being affected by this fire both near and far.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
