On October 7, 2007 at 12:00 pm, 12 fire companies, one bulldozer, 1 Cal Fire hand crew, two air tankers, one helicopter, one air attack coordinator, one Incident Dispatch Team, one Information Officer and five Chief Officers responded to a three-alarm grass fire on the hillside behind the 600 block of Crespi Drive in Pacifica.

The first arriving fire company was on scene within approximately four minutes after being dispatched and reported heavy smoke and flames running up the hillside. A second and third alarm was subsequently called for to obtain the necessary resources to fight the fire.

Firefighters, with assistance from the Cal Fire air tankers, were able to contain the fire to approximately 10 acres. The fire was controlled in approximately one hour with complete extinguishment and overhaul finished in approximately four and half hours. No structures were threatened by the fire.

At approximately 1:37 pm, fire crews were also dispatched to a grass fire behind the Linda Mar School located at 830 Rosita Road in Pacifica. Three fire companies and two Chief Officers responded to the fire. The first arriving fire company was on scene in approximately six minutes after being dispatched and found a small grass fire on the playground behind the school. The fire was quickly extinguished with no damage to any structures. Complete extinguishment and overhaul was completed in approximately one and a half hours.

There were no injuries to firefighters or citizens at either fire.

There does not appear to be any link between the two fires. The causes of both fires are under investigation by the Fire Prevention Bureau and Pacifica Police Department.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
