Firefighters from the City of Santa Clara aided by firefighters from the City of San Jose battled a four-alarm fire that broke out next to ECS Refining, a recycling business located on Reed Street in a light industrial section of Santa Clara. The blaze, which started around 12:30 p.m., burned for over three hours, and consumed a large debris pile, comprised of plastic palettes, discarded computers, and other materials destined for recycling.
Firefighters under the direction of Santa Clara Battalion Chief Randy Titus attacked the fire with multiple hand lines and were successful in preventing the spread of flames to adjacent exposures.
Two firefighters and two civilians were transported to area hospitals for treatment related to the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
