Citizens urged to accept fire plan

Neighborhood groups worry about getting word out

Halting catastrophic blazes with a fire plan could save homes and Nevada County wildlands, but only if residents embrace the plan, those involved said at a public hearing on the issue Monday.

But during their discussion of the newest draft of the Nevada County Fire Plan, committee members and some residents said they feared the plan would have no value unless people implement the plan home by home and understand the imminent danger of blazes.

"Local neighborhood associations are a good way to get the fire plan implemented," said Jim Hurley, who lives outside Nevada City.
