WEST CENTRAL SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY-EAST CENTRAL SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY-SOUTHWESTERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY-SOUTHEASTERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY-MARIPOSA MADERA AND FRESNO COUNTY FOOTHILLS-TULARE COUNTY FOOTHILLS

STRONG HIGH PRESSURE SPREADING WESTWARD INTO THE REGION WILL KEEP A VERY HOT AIRMASS OVER THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA INTERIOR THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. IN ADDITION...MOISTURE SURGING NORTHWARD AROUND THE HIGH WILL INCREASE HUMIDITIES ACROSS THE AREA. THIS COMBINATION OF HEAT AND HUMIDITY WILL NUDGE HEAT INDEX READINGS ABOVE ADVISORY LEVELS BEGINNING THURSDAY AFTERNOON. ALTHOUGH HOT CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK BEFORE THE HIGH PRESSURE WEAKENS...HEAT INDEXES ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN ABOVE THE ADVISORY THRESHOLD OF 110 DEGREES DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON HOURS ON THURSDAY...FRIDAY AND SATURDAY BEFORE DRIER AIR MOVES IN SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY. HEAT INDUCES WILL DROP BELOW 80 DEGREES FOR A FEW HOURS ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY MORNINGS. ... HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THURSDAY TO 7 PM PDT SATURDAY FOR THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY AND THE FOOTHILLS OF THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA... A HEAT ADVISORY FOR THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA...AND THE FOOTHILLS OF THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA...REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THURSDAY TO 7 PM PDT SATURDAY. HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL CLIMB TO AROUND 110 DEGREES ACROSS MUCH OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON HOURS ON THURSDAY...FRIDAY AND SATURDAY... ESPECIALLY IN URBAN AREAS... WHERE TEMPERATURES CAN RUN SEVERAL DEGREES WARMER THAN IN MORE RURAL LOCATIONS. HEAT INDEX VALUES ALSO WILL CLIMB TO AROUND 110 DEGREES ACROSS MUCH OF THE FOOTHILLS DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON HOURS OF THURSDAY... FRIDAY AND SATURDAY... ESPECIALLY IN THE NORMALLY HOTTER LOCATIONS OF THE LOWER FOOTHILLS...WHERE TEMPERATURES CAN RUN SEVERAL DEGREES WARMER. NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN...THE ELDERLY OR PETS IN ENCLOSED VEHICLES...EVEN FOR THE SHORTEST TIME. TEMPERATURES QUICKLY RISE TO LIFE THREATENING LEVELS...EVEN IF THE WINDOWS ARE PARTIALLY OPENED.

Instruction:
DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM...AND STAY OUT OF THE SUN. CHECK UP ON ANYONE MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT...SUCH AS AN ELDERLY NEIGHBOR...AT LEAST TWICE A DAY. PETS ARE ALSO SUSCEPTIBLE TO HEAT ILLNESS AND SHOULD BE CARED FOR ACCORDINGLY. A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR. THE HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE.
