Wildfire Burning In San Bernardino County

A brush fire is burning out of control in Lucerne Valley in San Bernardino County.

The fire has burned more than 400 acres since it broke out around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

A California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman says 60 mile-per hour winds are fanning the blaze across a sparsely populated area near the backside of the San Bernardino Mountains. About 200 firefighters are battling the blaze.

No structures are threatened. The cause is under investigation.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
