NEWS - 2 Valley Brush Fires Knocked Down Quickly

Jul 3, 2007 (CBS) LOS ANGELES Two small brush fires were knocked down in a little more than a half hour Tuesday, authorities said.

The fires were reported in the Santa Susana Pass area north of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway near North Topanga Canyon Boulevard at 5:51 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department, which assisted the Los Angeles County Fire Department in fighting the blazes.

The two small fires, which each consumed less than an acre, were knocked down by about 6:30 p.m., according to a county fire dispatcher.

The fires were about a quarter acre apart, according to broadcast reports.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
