Summary

The Forest Service is currently engaging a fire seven miles northeast of McCloud Bridge Campground near White Rock Mtn. The Bolli Fire is currently 700 acres in size and is 2% contained. 18 smokejumpers, 10 hand crews, three engines, two helicopters, one water tender and air attack are on the fire. The fire does not threaten any structures and recreation along Shasta Lake is not affected. The area is very inaccessible and in the middle of nowhere. Fire made significant runs upslope through heavy logging slash. Gusty winds caused spotting problems.

Significant Events

Driving time to to access the fire is approximately 2.5 hours from Interstate 5. Long drive times allowed fire to become established prior to ground resources arriving to support initial attack by SmokeJumpers. Fire is not accessible by vehicle and requires a 1 hour walk.

During the next 12 hours (day of 5-23-07): Fire moving southeast into Chatterdown Creek. Dirunal winds will push fire south down drainage. Fire is expected to double in size today.

In the next 24 hours: Potential is high for fire to cross Chatterdown Creek and establish on the south facing slope below Curl Ridge.

Size of Bolli Fire is down to 730 acres

The size of a fire in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest was reduced from 815 acres to 730 acres Friday because of updated mapping and Global Positioning Satellite technology, a forest spokeswoman said.

The Bolli Fire, which is burning about 25 miles northeast of Redding and seven miles northeast of the McCloud Bridge Campground, is 70 percent contained, spokeswoman Yvonne Jones said.

About 582 firefighters are assigned to the fire, which was moving southeast down Chatterdown Creek, Jones said. Firefighters continued to knock down trees and build a fireline Friday.
Meanwhile, the Hirz Bay boat ramp is closed until further notice for public safety, she said. Alternative boat ramps include the Packer's Bay boat ramp to the south and the Antler's boat ramp to the north of Gilman Roads

Shasta-Trinity National Forest 209

A Type 2 Interagaency Team is currently managing a fire seven miles northeast of McCloud Bridge Campground near White Rock Mtn.
The fire is located on steep terran in an area that is difficult to access.
The Bolli Fire is currently 730 acres in size and is 95% contained.

12 hand crews, 5 engines,1 helicopter,4 water tenders and1 dozer and various overhead personnel for a total of 358 persons are assigned to this incident. The fire does not threaten any structures and recreation along Shasta Lake is not affected. However, Hirz Bay boat ramp is currently closed to the public due to the use of Hirz Bay campground for the Incident Base Camp.

Today's fire activity was minimal
Significant Events

Yesterday a private watertender assigned to the incident went off the shoulder and down a several hundred foot embankment.
The driver was medivaced to a nearby hospital. There was also one heat related injury today. The fire is approximately 2 hours from the incident base camp. Fire area is very remote with poor accessibility.
The Type 2 team assigned to the incident plans on returning responsibility for the fire back to the Shasta-Trinity on 5/28 @ 0600. Estimated cost to date is $1,300,000.

Swartzlander's Type 2 Incident Management Team assumed command at 6pm on May 23 2007. Yesterday crews completed construction of fireline around the fire perimeter. Today crews continued fireline improvement and focused on eliminating potential sources for escape.
