CA-BTU - Honey fire


Honey Run at Skyway Rd near Chico and Paradise. The fire has jumped Skyway Road and mandatory evacuations are in effect on Oak Ridge Drive and Honey Run Road. Skyway is closed at Bruce Road in Chico and at Pearson Road in Paradise.

CHP Cad now reporting fire has jumped Skyway near Rocky Bluff. Honey Run Raod is being evacuated. Evac shelter in Paradise. HWY 99 is slowed to standstill in both directions in area due to fire traffic, multiple road closures, and manditory evacs........More when available

Evacuations Ordered in Chico Canyon Fire

A wind-whipped fire is forcing evacuations in the Honey Run Canyon east of Chico.

Authorities have ordered the evacuation of at least 15 homes. Flames have jumped across Skyway road off Highway 99. Skyway and Honey Run Road are closed to traffic.

An evacuation center has been set up at Neighborhood Church, 2801 Norte Dame Blvd, Chico, (530) 343-6006. A van is transporting evacuated residents to the church.

Fire officials say 200 acres have burned. There are three air tankers and two helicopters fighting the blaze.

The first report of the fire came in about 3:15 p.m..

A Red Flag Warning is in effect.

Fire Closes Skyway
Tuesday May 22, 2007


The fire forced the California Highway Patrol to shut down the Skyway from Bruce Road in Chico up to Neal Road in Paradise. The fire is burning in the Butte Creek Canyon and has jumped the Skyway. It is moving fast due to the high winds. Voluntary evacuations have been ordered for more than a dozen homes on Oakridge Drive. CalFire has called in the air tankers and more than 60 crews are fighting this fire. We will bring you more information as it becomes available.
