Cal Fire Firefighter Named ‘Woman of the Year’


Cal Fire firefighter Becky Quigley was named 2nd Assembly District Woman of the Year this week in a ceremony recognizing the outstanding achievements of women from the State Assembly's 80 districts.

Assemblyman Jim Nielsen (R-Gerber) recognized this Weed resident for her exceptional leadership skills as well as her unwavering commitment to serving her community.

For the last five years, Quigley has valiently responded to wildfires, putting her life on the line to protect the lives and property of others. She actively served two years in Cal Fire of Siskiyou County and currently works as a member of the Salmon River Hot Shot Crew, a group of talented firefighters trained in fire containment and suppression tactics.

"I am very honored to have received the Woman of the Year award," Quigley said. "It is very exciting to represent Siskiyou County and the firefighting community and I hope to continue this work for many years to come."
