Shasta TC: - CFPD Engine involved in Freeway non-injury accident - Passing vehicle strikes engine

Cottonwood Fire Protection District firetruck responded to injury accident and while parked at scene hit by passing car. No Firefighter injuries.

The Fire engine rear-ended belonged to Cottonwood Fire Protection District.

Update: The CHP patrol vehicle had two passengers. CHP officer and CFPD BC Ciapponi both were transported by air to Hospital.

California Highway Patrol Officer Dwight Havens and Cottonwood Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Calvin Ciapponi were taken to Mercy Medical Center during a multiple-vehicle accident on the rain-slickened onramp to Interstate 5 from Gas Point Road in Cottonwood at about 4:50 p.m. Friday.

"It's mostly for precautionary measures. He said his neck is sore," Cottonwood Fire Protection District Chief Jim Flaherty said of Ciapponi's condition.

Update: The officer, identified as Dwight Havens by a CHP spokesman, was taken by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with complaints of low back pain.
Update: CalFire Engine rear-ended at T/C scene.
Another vehicle hit a CHP unit. Firefighters all ok, CHP Officer transported to hospital.
Update: 10 minutes later a CHP car was hit at the scene and CHP officer sent to Mercy Hospital with unknown injuries.,

Update: Another accident just north of this one now.
Update: 1715.hrs - Freeway open, CalFire units just cleared the scene.

Update: 1538HRS -Entire freeway shutdown.
Update: 1336HRS - Shasta CDF responding to injury accident, Tehema cancelled enroute.
