Metrolink versus Freight Train - No major injuries

Final Update: 1345hrs - Until the line is completely cleared, trains will operate between Union Station and the Rancho Cucamonga Station, and from there two buses will transport passengers to the remaining three stops: Fontana, Rialto and San Bernardino

Update:
1245hrs - Four people were slightly injured Thursday when a Metrolink train that departed from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles collided with a freight train in Rialto.

Update
1145hrs - Metrolink commuter train sideswiped a freight train that is also stopped at the same location on the adjacent track.

Rialto police say a Metrolink commuter train and a freight train have collided in the San Bernardino County community, but there appear to be no major injuries.

Metrolink train No. 306, which left Los Angeles at 10:10 a.m. bound for San Bernardino, collided with a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train a half mile west of Metrolink's Rialto Station at 11:30 a.m., said Metrolink
spokesman Francisco Oaxaca.

There were 15 people on the Metrolink train and three on the freight train, said Metrolink spokeswoman Joanna Capelle. Unconfirmed reports suggested that four people may have suffered minor injuries and been taken to a hospital, she said.

Though both trains remained stopped this afternoon, Metrolink trains were still running along most of the San Bernardino Line, Capelle said.

Location: Rialto area.
Cause: Under investigation.
Resources: 5 ground ambulances enroute.
Comms: Trunked system: 6-Fireground-1

Related Note: Following the Chatsworth wreck, Metrolink officials began doubling-up the staff in many of their locomotives and authorized millions of dollars in safety upgrades.
The Metrolink train involved in Thursday's crash did not have the doubled-up staff in the locomotive, Capelle said.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
