CA-LFD Sayer Fire - 11,262 acres - 100%

Final Update: 11-20-08 1900hrs - Sayer Fire Is 100% contained - Firefighters will continue to patrol fire lines for any hots spots. Fire perimeter will by monitored to air and ground to ensure there are no areas that could re-ignite.
Sayre (CA-LFR-1460) CIIMT-4 (Opliger) will transition the Sayre Incident to an Angeles National Forest Type III organization on 11/21/08 at 0600. The Sayre Incident will transition out of Unified Command with Los Angeles City Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department at 1800 today.

Summary

An investigative team is asking for the public's assistance to help establish the cause of the Sayre fire which started on November 14, 2008. Investigators have spoken to witnesses, but are still seeking additional information that may assist with the ongoing investigation into the fire. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Los Angeles Fire Department "Tip" line at (213) 485-6095.

Fire Situation: Today, firefighters continue to patrol the fire lines in Placerita Canyon and extinguish any hot spots that flare up. Water dropping helicopters are assisting firefighters with extinguishing hot spots burning in the interior areas within the existing fire lines. Firefighting resources are being released today to return home.

Current Road Closures: All roads are open.

Evacuation Closures: All evacuations have been lifted. The Oakridge Mobile Home Park is open to residents only.

Evacuation Centers: The American Red Cross has an evacuation center at Sylmar High School.

Animal Evacuations: Large animals may be picked up by owners at Hansen Dam Equestrian Center. Small animal evacuation center is located at West Valley, East Valley and Mission Shelter.

Cooperating Agencies: LA County Sheriff, Los Angeles Police Department, California Highway Patrol, LA County Animal Control, American Red Cross, Department of Water and Power, LA County Parks, LA County Coroner, LA County Public Health.

Planned Actions

Firefighters are continuing to hold and improve constructed firelines south of Placerita Canyon. Fire fighters are patrolling and putting out any hot spots 300 feet inside the fire lines.

South of Placerita Canyon the terrain is very steep and inaccessible.
