Fire weather watch: San Luis Obispo county, Cuyama Valley

[EDIS] fire weather watches issued for sections of central and southern california for gusty northerly winds and low relative humidity

GUSTY NORTHERLY WINDS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS SECTIONS OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FROM THURSDAY EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE LIKELY TO OCCUR THROUGH THE INTERSTATE 5 CORRIDOR...AS WELL AS THROUGH AND BELOW PASSES AND CANYONS OF SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES. AS THESE WINDS DEVELOP...VERY LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES...15 PERCENT OR LESS...WILL BE POSSIBLE. THE POSSIBLE COMBINATION OF GUSTY NORTHERLY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY WOULD PRODUCE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. THEREFORE...A FIRE WEATHER WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED. ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING FOR GUSTY NORTHERLY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LOS ANGELES/OXNARD HAS ISSUED A FIRE WEATHER WATCH... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. A STRONG AND GUSTY NORTHERLY WIND EVENT MAY DEVELOP FROM THURSDAY EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. AREAS THROUGH AND BELOW PASSES AND CANYONS COULD EXPERIENCE SUSTAINED WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 40 MPH. IN ADDITION...RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES MAY DROP TO 15 PERCENT OR LOWER FOR SEVERAL HOURS DURING THE PEAK OF THE WIND EVENT. THEREFORE...A FIRE WEATHER WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE AREA. THE AREAS MOST SUSCEPTIBLE TO CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WILL BE THE CARRIZO PLAIN BELOW THE TEMBLOR RANGE... AND THE CUYAMA VALLEY BELOW THE CALIENTE RANGE.

Instruction:
A FIRE WEATHER WATCH MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE FORECAST TO OCCUR. PLEASE ADVISE THE APPROPRIATE OFFICIALS OR FIRE CREWS IN THE FIELD OF THIS FIRE WEATHER WATCH. LISTEN FOR LATER FORECASTS AND POSSIBLE RED FLAG WARNINGS.

****REMINDER**** Every fire has the ability to be catastrophic. The wildland fire management environment has profoundly changed. Growing numbers of communities, across the nation, are experiencing longer fire seasons; more frequent, bigger, and more severe, fires are a real threat. Be careful with all campfires and equipment.

"I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer." --Abraham Lincoln
