Comments: CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters are at scene of a Tamarisk tree fire along westbound Interstate 10 near Ramon Road. Approximately 800 feet of trees are involved. Due to heavy smoke and poor visibility, the California Highway Patrol has closed the #4 west bound lane and may be closed for up to six hours. Public Information Officer Captain Fernando Herrera is at the scene and can be reached at (760) 250-9881. No injuries have been reported. Updates will be posted as information becomes available.
Problems: Poor visibiliity due to heavy smoke.

NEWS:

Fire closes part of I-10

A tree fire along Interstate 10 in Thousand Palms has closed at least one lane for as much as six hours.

According to the Riverside County Fire Department, approximately 800 feet of tamarisk trees are involved near Ramon Road.

Heavy smoke has forced the California Highway Patrol to close the westbound number four lane.

The blaze was reported at 6:34 a.m.; the cause is under investigation.
