ACFD News: Santa's returning to Alameda County Fire Station 25! #CaFire

Santa's returning to the Alameda County Fire Department!

Locations: We'll be hosting our annual Santa at the Fire House event on Sunday, December 8th from 11:30AM to 2:30PM at Alameda County Fire Station 25, 20336 San Miguel Avenue, Castro Valley, CA 94546, USA
Live in ‪#‎Dublin‬ or the ‪#‎TriValley‬? Along with the Alameda County Fire Fighters Association, we'll be hosting our Annual ‪#‎Santa‬ at the Fire House event on Sunday, December 8th from 5:30PM to 8:30PM at Station #18 (4800 Fallon Rd).
Who: Hosted by ACFD in partnership with the Alameda County Fire Fighters Association.
What: You can take a professional picture with Santa on an antique fire engine, enjoy freshly baked Otis Spunkmeyer cookies & milk, and pick up holiday fire safety information!

The suggested donation per photo is $10 and all proceeds from the event support the Alameda County Fire Fighters Toy Drive, which helps grant holiday wishes to children and families in need in the unincorporated area. More info to follow on Santa's other visits to the ACFD

How fires get their names

Every year in California thousands of wildfires start throughout the state. In most cases, the dispatch center sending the initial resources to a wildland fire will designate a name for the fire, but the first on scene engine or fire official can also name the incident. Fires are usually named for the area in which they start – a geographical location, local landmark, street, lake, mountain, peak, etc. Quickly naming the fire provides responding fire resources with an additional locater, and allows fire officials to track and prioritize incidents by name. For example during the Southern California Fire Siege of 2003, the largest wildland fire in California history, the Cedar Fire in San Diego County, was named after the Cedar Creek Falls area where it started. The destructive Old Fire, which burned during the same time period in San Bernardino County, was named after the road along which it started - Old Waterman Canyon Road.
