2013 SHF Lightning (Wildfire)

Beginning on the evening of Tuesday, July 2nd, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest started to receive multiple lightning strikes. As of 1800 on Wednesday, July 3rd, the Forest had received approximately 2,498 lightning strikes within the past 24 hours.
There are currently eight confirmed fires. The majority of the lightning started on the Shasta Lake Ranger District and on the Mt. Shasta-McCloud Management Unit, but the entire Forest has been affected. Currently, there is no threat to any homes or other structures.
The Mt. Shasta-McCloud Management Unit has activated their lightning plan and all Forest areas are closely monitoring the situation. Firefighters and air recon will continue patrolling in areas where other strikes occurred and may occur later today.
The Forest is fully staffed to maintain initial attack capabilities with local resources and is prepared for additional lightning predicted for Wednesday

On the evening of Tuesday, July 2nd, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest received over 400 lightning strikes. Lightning strikes continued for approximately the next 36 hours. There are currently 14 confirmed fires, located across the forest and all in different stages.
